The last post in 2012

In this moment I'm doing my last post of the year because this english class is ending:(

I really enjoy this english class that's the last course of english levels in the Universidad de Chile.

I think that there is always something new to learn and that always will be usefull, specially in english, that is an universal language.

In my universitary life thi is my second course of english, because when I got to the university I did the english test and it results on me in the third level, so I started to take the misssing course the first semester of this year and now I'm finishing qith this subject.

Like last semester, in this one we used the blog like a way of learning english too and I think it's a really usefull way to learn more and to practice wath we already know.

Beside this, there are still some aspects that I have to improve on my personal english, like verbal times and my language, I think that there is were i have my bigger problems, but I'm not shure if they are the only ones I will know it next week at the examns D:
My plan for now to improve my english is practicing more and work alittle harder to solve this problems, thoug I don't think that I can do it fast enough for next week.

I don't use very much my english usually, but lately I've been using it a little more because I have to read press that is in english for a university work I have to do for the end of this semester.
Most of the time, when I use english it's on entertainment web pages.

At last I have to complain about one specific point, the time of the class is awfull, form me it's really late because te two days that we have this class, monday and wednesday, I have long windows between classes :/

Beside this last point, I think this class has been really usefull for me :)

The best movie?

I don´t know how can I choose just one movie, but I'll try to do it.

Latelly I've been going a lot to the cinema to watch all kind of movies, but maybe ona of the last ones I saw in the cinema was one of the best I've ever seen.

Now I can only think of "Batman: The dark knight rises"

This is an american movie that I think we all know about. I saw it in the Cinehoyts located in San Agustín, maybe around two weeks after it got to Chile, I don't remember really well.

In this movie, the main character is protagonized by Christian Bale, there are also acting on this movie Anne Hathaway, like the cat woman, Michael Cain, Gary Oldman ( a clasic of the cinema), Marion COtilliard, betweeen others.

This movie belongs to fiction movies and that is one of the reasons why I liked it, because it had a lot of factors and scenes that in another gender couldn't be there, like action scenes nad some fights, that I have to say I'm not a big fan of, but in this case were perfect for the movie plot.

Batman is a saga, and in this part of it (the last one) mencions the end of his story, it tells us about the last return of Batman to Gotham and the troubles he has to overcome to save his city one more time, but in this part of the thriology, in the company of the cat woman.

I enjoyed it because it's the end of a time, and it was a really good way(form me) to solve wath finally happened in this superhero's life.

Elections fraud

I have to admit I went to vote nine days ago but I`m not really shure if this affects in any way the results of my borough because my candidate only got an eight porcent of the votes, so maybe I`m a little desapointed in that way, but looking it from another position I`m really glad that Sabat is finally aout of where I live and we can got rid of his bullies.

 

I voted because I really wanted and still want a change in the borough where I live, that is Ñuñoa, and perhaps the only way of doing that is trough voting.

 After voting I felt really well because I always tought that it cuold be usefull for something the fact of voting, so I felt really well at the moment and really eager for the results that, especially in the place I live, was really tight.
 I don´t really like our political system but dough it's the only one we have we have to try to do something with what we have.

Y spect the fact that so many people didn't vote on this municipal elections, I think the most of us did espect it but never dimensioned the magnitud that it will be.

 

I hope that in the presidencials elections there will be more interested people in voting and we get the oportunity to make a change in this country once for all.

Besides, with the change of the ministers I think that desapointed us all, so maybe the people will feel eaven less represented for the politics of Chile.

Chilean character

I don't know if there really is a greatest Chilean of all times, if I had to choose I cuoldn't pick one in special, could you? 
Maybe if it's a character it wolud be easier to choose one because it's fiction, but in reality I don't think  there is one that overcomes all the others persons.
After saying that, so I can have something to talk about in this entrance of my blog I will choose a fiction character.
So... one of the greatest would be for me "Profesor Rosa" :)
Now, I know that his profile has changed from the show that he maid in my childhood.
I´ve already talk about his show made for childs in the previous course of english because I think it´s a really good character and tipicaly chilean for us that got to see him in those programs and now see him in another area of tv programs, like "Mentiras Verdaderas" on it fridays special called "Viernes Sin Censura" 

He started doing childs programs  but after a forbidden video he started toguether with Guru guru and Don Carter doing adults shows and programs, but now everyone of them work on their own.

I don´t know if he´s really like an important chilean person, but at least for me when I was a child he was :B

If I fet to see hime again, this time like a journalism student I would ask him if he doesn´t miss the program that he made for childs, the animals investigation and the blackboard where he draw animals and get childrens learning about the animal world in a fun way. Something that now in our country doesn´t exist.

I hope you remember him too :)

Practicing for PEt test

Hello everyone, after a long time without writting to you I have to talk to you about a practicing test I just did.

This practice is ment to prepare us for the final exam that's called PET, it's made of a lot of little test that see how are you doing in your english capacities.

Pet evaluates your skills on reading, listening, vocabulary, and language, all of this in the correct english form. 

In my case I just realice that I have some problems in some of this areas. I think my biggest problems were in the language part and also in the second part of the listening section that's were I`ve got the lowest scores.

but the good part is that I got complete score in the reading part, I guess that this is because this part is the one that we most practice in classes and in general life when we got to be in front og english words.

I hope I can improve the parts where I have problems from here to the end of this englis course, otherwise I'll have to do this level of english again :(.

First day at the university

Well, this time I will talk with all of you about my first day at the university.

It was here, in the ICEI in 2010. A strange beginning of semester because of the earthquake that shocked us the twenty seventh of February and that put us a mark because there wasn’t Cartagua that year :/.

After some difficulties in the beginning of the year we finally started classes the third week of April and they were really strange, at least for me because you don´t really know who is going to teach you or how they are going to treat you in classes and in the evaluations.At least in my school we all knew each other so it was comfortating, but in this place everything was new.

So, the first day was strange in the classes, but not in the breaks because our generation of journalism made a reunion before we started classes. Around March to most of us, around 40, came to the reunion without knowing each other and to get to knew at least our names ajajja.At least in that part it wasn’t so strange because I saw familiar faces in some of the classes and after it, in the breaks we were all reunited to take a cup of coffee and try to get that sleeping face away.

I have to say at first I was out of place and felt really uncomfortable in the classes, but after it I got to speak with a lot of nice people, but I don’t specially remember with who I was talking to on my first day of university.

I remember drinking a lot of coffee and feeling overwhelm with all the books that I had to read, but after those first days of uncertainty everything went better than expected.

Parrilladas!

The Fiestas Patrias were specially long this year, they lasted all five days, in some cases they were longer because people, between some of them two my relatives that took extra days off from work for this holyday.

I will talk about this recently past fondas because they were really special. In this opportunity we, has a family, received a traveler. My oldest cousin (he is already 34!) came from Spain that is where he lives to visit us for this holydays.

We get to see him after 3 long years so it was a really important moment and with tears and all, tears of happiness of course jajaja.

What we did was simple, we spend the more time we could with him, talking about his life and how it has been for him to be away from us and how difficult it has been for us to don’t have him near.

Every day we were making parrilladas in different houses of my family, so after the first two days I didn’t want to see another piece of meat, it was so much food.

Beside my family, in two of the nights I went to fondas with my friends, but it was so crowded and there was only meat everywere so after the 18 I choose to eat only vegetables and some soups.

I really enjoyed it because I had a lot of activities and I get to spend a lot of quality time with my family in honor that was my cousin in the country, something that didn’t happened in a long time. So this Fiestras Patrias were the best that I had in a really long time! J

My best friend

My best friend is named Ximena :)

She has been my best friend for almost five years now and I hope there will be a lot more years having her friendship because we have great time together and always laugh of almost everything. 

We meet at school, when we were on "alianzas" that's how it's named the celebration that we have in my school and they last a full week in September, but before of the presentations of activities we prepare them for almost half a year for that moment. I met Ximena preparing one of those activities because we were in charge of some coreographies.

We have a lot of things in common, like the love for animals. ALso a lot of our friends are the same and all of our close circle of people now each other. The both of us love going to the theatre and music concerts, also going to the cinema is one of our favorites hobbys. 

A strange thing is that our personalities are really different, for not saying opposite, wath I thing makes us eaven better friends because we complement each other.

Sadly she doesn't have much time now because she's finishing her teacher career and this consumes almost all of her time, without counting that the two of us have boyfriends. jajajajja. For  mostly this reasons I see her once every two weeks.

Starting 2012

Hello!

This monday I'll write about how it was for me the first semester of this year in a lot of subjects.

In the studies I learned a lot of sides of journalism, specially on radio. Working in it was a great time for me, specially doing a radio show and producing it gaved me a lot of experiences that will be usefull when I get my journalism degree.

In other subject, I get to use a lot of free time to spend quality time with my family, wath I couldn't do for a lot of time past year because I was working. 

On winter vacations I spend really good hours going to the cinema with my boyfriend and finally get some free time to see him :).

A big challenge that I had last semester, and also always in my life, is to found the time to do everything I have to do and also that I want to do, time that I have problems to find, overall when we're in classes at the university.

The most serious problem that I had was the illnes of my grandmother, a problem that still exist and I hope it goes away soon.

I hope this semester goes better that how it started because I had some troubles in the beggining of it and I wish that bad luck gets away as soon as possible.

My vision of Santiago

This semester things are a little different from the first of this year.

Now that we are on a strike and only have the english class is time to start writting on the blog again.

In this opportunity I'll be talking about the city where I live and where I'm from: Santiago of Chile.

What I really like about this city is that you can find a lot of different places to go in only one city, activities for all kind of people and also a variety of communities in their neighberhoods. I really enjoy to meet different people and find my self on a lot of situations that turn to be special while I'm walking or travelling around Santiago.

Insteade,what I really dislike, and specially on this moment of my live is the lack of security that streets gives you on Santiago, robberys are usuall and the protection from Carabineros(the police of Chile) isn't really helpfull, instead they even act against the own citicens that they should protect, for example on marchs. This gives you a lot of insecurities at the moment that you decide to go out in the city.

Try to change this last part will make things really better inthe city, and Santiago will be able to become a better place to live, but only maybe, because I cuold be a long time sitting here writting you about what can be improved in the capital of Chile.

Now, if you are coming to Santiago like a visitor you have to be shure of take really good care of your personal things and to don't walk in really lonely places that can put you on risk. That for me could be the most important cares you should have when you visit Santiago of Chile.

Blogging in English

This time I´ll talk about my experience writting on this blog. 

It has been more than three months writting in here, and all of this time writting in English, what has been really dificult for me because I wasn´t use to write in a blog and less in english.

Sometimes I really enjoyed it while we were in class, the things that we wrote were really fun and helped us to knew our class mates and in the case of ones we knew already it alouded us to get to know them even more that before.

It really helped me with my english, maybe not to get a perfect writting, but yes improving it a little, now I can at least write something that people can understand what I´m trying to say to them.

I think it´s an advantage to do this kind of works because it help us to be better in the use of English and in the fastness in the moment that we have to use this language in the class, also I think that latter it´ll really usefull to know all that we´re learning now about this subject. 

The bad point is that I think that maybe we could do some more speaking excersise that is where I have more problems (I think) in this  area of the English language.

Vacations! :D

Now that the winter vacations are coming I'll write today about this subject because I only want them to be here, to be free from the university and be able to do only what I want, not what university wants from me.

My favourites activities to do on vacations are sleeping and resting in my house or somewhere alse, with my family and my friends, beacuse I usually spend my time with them on my free hours.

In the case of winter vacations I mostly do inside activities like go to the movies, go to museums, reading books that I don't have time to read on a normal semester.

For this vacations my plans of what I will do aren´t much different, I'll also see my family and my friends that I haven't seen in such time. But there is a change on the winter vacations of this year. At the end of July I'll travel to Mendoza in car with my three best friends for a week.

This year our winter vacations will be longer that previous years, we'll have three weeks of liberty! before coming back to the cruel reality of the studies and work. 

"Bio Bio, la radio"

Today I will talk about a subject related to the career I´m studing now in the Universidad de Chile, that is journalism.

In this career there are a lot of ways to practice and create the news every day, one of them is related to the Internet.  Webpages are one of the most used ways to comunicate and give instant news. That´s why a lot of means of communication create and use in every moments websites of their media, like radios, newspapers, etc.

This time I’ll talk about the webpage of Radio Bio Bio and how it works. Next you can visit the media and go to radio biobio's web page.

 
On this web page you can find news and diferent sections of this subject, like national, regional, worldwide, sport, technology, economy and interviews, and that’s only in the writen part of the page. Also you can listen to the radio on line, and hear de programs that are being transmited in the same moment you’re hearing them and also archives of audio and paste programs that the radio has transmited.

I usually visit this web site every other day, and sometimes very day when I need material for my classes at university and I really like it because I can get all the information I need in only one web page instead of go from page to page.

A sweet photography

This is one of the few photographs where I´m supposedly look sweet(but I keep thinking it´s a lie). In this opportunity I´m next to one of my friends at the university, Carolina =)

I´m not sure who took this picture, but I think that it was a career mate, Vicky. She took it while  we were doing a work for the photography class. we took it few weeks ago.

In this picture Caro and I were talking about something without much relevance (I guess), at the university campus, or something that wasn´t relative to the work we had to do. Also you can see that it was freezing because we´re wrapped up.

I like this photography because I love to take pictures with my closest friends and I think that it´s a really sweet and happy one, It makes me remember the fun times we have together. Usually I think that I´m not a photogenic person, but I only like how I look in this one because we´re really happy and having a great time.

Tips at the university

1- Have a lot of patient.When you get in the university, especially in the ICEI you have to be a patient person and don´t get upset for having to wait to your teachers or in Secretaría de estudios.

2- Always carry your TUI. This is the university card for students and if you´re a student at Juan Gomez Millas campus, with your TUI you can entry at any time and go anywhere inside the campus.

3.- Have lunch at the ICEI´s cafeteria. When you´re hungry at the university, you must go to the best place to have food in all Juan Gomez Millas, the ICEI´s cafeteria. Here you can find a lot of menus. including vegetarian lunches.

Profesor Rosa

Hello! this time I will talk about a personal subject again, in this case, my favorite film or tv serie.


Now I don´t really have a favourite TV serie or a favourite movie that a cuold watch over and over, but when I was a child I liked very much a children´s tv serie called "El mundo del profesor Rosa" (in honor of  the name of the show I´ll use pink letters).


This tv show had four characters or actors: a teacher, called Profesor Rosa, a giant bird ( that really was a men in a costume) under the name of Guru Guru, a mailman called Don Carter and the pianist, Tío Valentín.


I don´t remember the first time a saw it, but I do remember that I always liked this tv serie because of the humor in it and also this show had a educative section, where they teach you abuot animasl and wild life.


Now, the show have another formta, now it´s focus on adults and cover other subjects that now on my twenty years are really interesting for me.

My first notebook

This has been one of the favourites piece of technology I ever had.It´s my first notebook, a black sony vaio, and it´s big to be a notebook.



This june it´ll be two years since I bought it because I need it to do my university works, my old computer was a little to old.



I use it always in my home because it´s to heavy to take it anywhere else, and use it every day a few times, because i always have work to do and also some social life to take care of jajajaja.



I love my notebook and I bought it because of the programs in it, also it´s so comfortable and with a good size for me. It´s of a beatiful black and in the keyboard the material of what it´s made is shiny, but also with an elegant design.


I have to admit that my life without it would be a lot more dificult and boring, I would miss my little notebook so much. It´s almost like a pet in my house.

 

"Siguiendo la luna"

This time I will talk about one of the favourites bands that I use to listen.

They start like Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, but now they are apart and his vocalist is the only one that keeps in the music, under the name of Vicentico.

This band is from Argentina, their music identity comes from the ska music and one of their first concert was on the Subterock festival.

My favourite thing of the band is the happiness of the music and the deep lirics in their songs, mix that for me creates great music.

One of my favourites songs is also one of the oldest of the band, it´s called "siguiendo la luna", is not a happy song, but there´s a lot of meaning in it. Down here I´ll put the link of this great song from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

starting the black pepper

This is my first blog, so i`ll start with some basic information about me.

My name is Valentina Toledo Bustos, and i was born in Santiago, Chile. 

I´ll be twenty one years old at november 6, date of full spring in my country.

I´ve always lived in an apartment in Ñuñoa, santiago, with my mother, my grandmother and my pet, pimienta. I´m an only child but I never get borred because I have a lot of cousins, arround ten of them.

Now i´m on third year of journalism in the Universidad de Chile, and previausly I was on a catholic school until 2009 that is also located on Ñuñoa.

My hobbies are reading, writting on a nacional radio, spend quality time with my family and friends, traveling (thing that I would  like to do more) to places that are different from what I usually see.
